Breakfast was good. Dinner was AL La Carte. Reception were kind enough to warn us several large groups would be in for dinner so suggested we order before they arrived.

The room was very tide and clean and it has the best breakfast in southern Iceland. The host was super nice and helpful, we had a wonderful time staying there.

We stayed for one night as part of our South Iceland road trip. Comfortable and clean rooms, good beds and even Netflix provided on the in-room television. We enjoyed really great food cooked in-house (both dinner and breakfast) which was delicious and authentically local. Staff were friendly, location was ideal. Access to the rooms was easy, being able to park right next to the door (useful when carrying bags in the snow).

There are many hiking trails and the staff at the visitors...
There are many hiking trails and the staff at the visitors center was very helpful. We choose a 3 hours hike - to the waterfalls and a viewpoint of the glacier. It was so beautiful! it took us closer to 4 hours but this included a long stop at the view point. You don't see that many bushes and greenery in other places in Iceland - so it was also very unique. On the way back we saw some beautiful birds that stayed with us for a little white before they disappeared into the bushes.
Be aware of the steep climbing that is required. However, all paths are well maintained and marked.
Check in was smooth and the front desk girl was friendly. This hotel is very desolate on a long stretch of road without anything on it. I'm not sure how far Hofn was past it as we were coming from Vik. They have a restaurant onsite that was really good. Breakfast was included and offered bacon, scrambled, and fried eggs in addition to the typical Iceland breakfast of cold cuts, cheeses, yogurts, etc.
There were a few sheep milling around when we were there. They were just munching and didn't bother anyone.
The evening dinners were very tasty! I think the best lamb dish I had in Iceland was here. There was also a good selection at breakfast.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. There was a very hospitable atmosphere to the place.
Our room was a good size and, bar the curtains, had been modernised well. There was also a sink, which was helpful as we were sharing the main bathroom facilities.
You really felt you were in the wildness, and from our window you could hear sheep and the nearby waterfall.
Everything about this guesthouse is great!
The owner was icelandic and very friendly. She even let our friend to use the showers for free and sleep in her camper van on the property!
The guesthouse is well equipped (2 shared bathrooms/restrooms!) and the breakfast was yummy, with homemade products.
The bedroom was roomy, with comfy beds. Everything was clean and functionnal.
The location is pretty quiet and the view is nice over the fields. You can see the ocean in the distance.
Lovely family owned business! Everyone who works there was extremely welcoming, especially the receptionist who told us the history of the family run farm and hotel and about the decorations at the establishment. The meals were incredible, using as many farm to table ingredients as possible, and the rooms were big and comfortable. This is a great hotel to stay at with a great location- we were able to see the northern lights at night during our winter stay. Couldn’t recommend enough!
A really lovely guesthouse, great for an overnight stay. The place was very clean and new.
The employee who was taking care of the place was really nice, showed us around and we chatted a bit about where he is from and what he is doing in Iceland.
The bathrooms were large and clean, with spacious showers where you comfortably wash and toilet in the same room.
Everything. We stayed in 6 different places during our two weeks in Iceland. We all agreed that this was hands-down the best. The beds are super comfortable. The view is incredible. The sounds of the river coming into the cabin all night are dreamy. The breakfast is delicious. The host is lovely. We’ll definitely be back here (someday)!
Well maintained guesthouse. It looked brand new when we arrived autumn 2021. The traditional corrugated iron outside suggests that the property is an old farm, but the inside is completely renovated and modern.
Very clean room
Good breakfast included
Affordable and reasonable price in expensive Iceland
Our stay at Guesthouse Skalafell was lovely! Our room was comfy and clean. The breakfast meal was delicious and plentiful. We hiked along the trails with the river on one side and cliffs on the other! Spectacular! The hosts were warm and welcoming. Easy to find. We would definitely stay here again!
Our host, Jan, was friendly and very helpful. He told us about a great 3 hour hike that started right at the guest house. Although the location is about 30 minutes from Hofn there is a hotel with a good restaurant nearby. Our room had a lovely view and the shared bathrooms were spacious.
Woke up with a view of waterfalls and sheep, followed by the best hotel breakfast I think I've ever had. I'm a budget traveler but spent a bit extra on this one for the location (close to glacier) and it did not disappoint! Large and comfortable room and an overall great 1 night stay.
Really nice hotel situated in a quiet place in the South East of Iceland close to the Jökulsárlón ice lake and diamond beach and the mulagljufur canyon.
Great choice of food for breakfast, coffee always available at the entrance. Bedroom clean and spacious with TV.
Pretty good restaurant food and beers, and not too expensive for Iceland. They even had good vegetarian options. Hotel breakfast was also decent. Cool taxedermied animals displayed in halls, and whale skeleton outside! Person checking us in was friendly.
Beautifull place, in the green under a waterfall and near a little steam.
The little houses are perfect, they make you feel at home.
The staff is smiling, gentle and very helpfull.
Good breakfast and nice view of the Icelandic landscape.
Nice location for exploring the South of Iceland. Only 30 minutes from Hofn with shops and restaurants and half an hour from Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. Nice guesthouse with nice staff, good breakfast and comfortable rooms.
Excellent restaurant with very fresh, home-cooked food. Rooms were well-appointed and had great views of the ocean and mountains. Excellent location for exploring southern Iceland (20 minutes from Glacier Lagoon).
Excellent buffet breakfast included and nice selection in dining room the night before.
Very large, comfortable en-suite room in the older section of the hotel. “Country House” feel.
Huge room on the first floor, with a great view to the front of the hotel. Great beds, really comfortable. Very nice restaurant with enough options, good breakfast.
