Rothwell House Hotel, hotel in Kettering

In the heart of quaint and historic Rothwell, this comfortable and friendly hotel offers tasteful rooms with free broadband and good service.

This was a total scam, booked on this site to find that the place had switched ownership and couldn’t get through on any of the phone numbers, thanks to my constant digging I got a number. Spoke with a man to tell me the booking would be void and would have to pay at reception for the stay and go through booking.com for a refund. Still currently waiting on this refund but honestly I will be the last time I use this site and will never recommend this service to anyone. You have been warned!!!!!

I have known Kettering for many years so this review will not be helpful to other travellers because I do not know what they are looking for, but like so many places the facilities have declined in the last forty years.

We were not told that booking for dinner was essential.

We were not told that booking for dinner was essential. We arrived at the restaurant to be told that it was fully booked and there was nothing they could do. So, I ended up driving around Desborough at night in the rain searching for a pub. It was both dangerous and frustrating. I live in South Africa where they always make sure that an extra place is made in these circumstances. It's hard to believe how little we as guests were valued. MC

I had bed bugs in my bed.

I had bed bugs in my bed. They then moved me to another room that had not been cleaned from the last person who stayed. The 3rd room they took me to there blood all over the bathroom. I asked for my money back and they didn't want to. I got 30% back for one night.. i had no towls no cup for a drink.. i had to sit in reception from 2am till the morning till I could leave with no sorry. I would never stay again and I recommend nobody else does. This place need closing down!!!!

The staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way...

The staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to assist us. The room was lovely, and comfortable and we were able to get extra pillows very quickly! The cold water tap did not work, and corks not be fixed until Monday(2 nights had passed by then) because maintenance men do not work on weekends. My wife was not that happy with breakfast- as it was not always to her satisfaction, as the coffee went cold too quickly, and on one occasion the fried egg was burnt. The evening meal was ok-ish, but had the same (limited) menu each night! Her steak had to be sent back as it was was inedible for her. When we had food from the bar, we ordered a bottle of wine. On one occasion we were advised that there was a similar wine available which may be preferable. Unfortunately we were not advised of the massive hike in price - £37.60 - until we had the bill!! On the same floor as our room there were a group of very noisy women celebrating a 30th birthday. They were extremely loud in the dining room, and continued being so well after midnight. They showed no respect for others at all. When we asked about dress code for evening meal, we were told “ smart casual” . However when a large group of workers arrived on Sunday night- they wore anything but smart clothes!! All the staff were very accommodating, and went out of their way to be helpful.

Kettering is sufferingike many small towns, so many empty shops but there are some gems like The bean at the Hive and Vintage Fleur and some very nice places to eat on the Market Place Keno Lounge and Jurassic Grill.

Kettering is an old market/manufacturing town in the midst of some of the most beautiful (and un-touristy) landscape in England. We stay here frequently visiting relatives, and are constantly discovering new and nice things about the area, especially old villages, archeological sites, some quiet and special stately homes to visit, and a few local gems with serious charm (the Blitz cafe, the Keno bar and restaurant).

This hotel is in an excellent location for us and we have used it many times over the last 8 years. Parking on site is easy, and you have a restaurant and garage shop within walking distance. The hotel offers an ample buffet breakfast which should satisfy most tastes. Whilst our initial room was not up to standard. The young lady at reception quickly rectified this, allocating us one on the 3rd floor as initially requested in our booking. She ensured we were happy with this room, excellent service from Lucy Benson, many thanks.

Clean hotel, basic but enough for what you would require for an overnight stay. Plenty of parking. Iron & board in room. Heating control didn't work. WiFi not great. Beds were comfortable enough but mattress was very soft. Walking distance to Miller & Carter, garage with all services and large shop plus Starbucks on site. Quick access to all main routes. Decent shower. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.
