Rose Cottage, hotel in Barbon

Rose Cottage offers accommodations in Tunstall, 13 miles from Trough of Bowland and 25 miles from World of Beatrix Potter. This 3-star bed and breakfast offers a garden.

Lovely cottage amidst pastoral surroundings. Host stays in the property, which means it’s very nicely appointed and immaculately clean. Nice personal touches throughout the house. Host is very welcoming and helpful, and provides a very nice and high quality breakfast, including home made juices, bread and jams from the apple and plum trees on the property. A great place for a relaxing stay.

Dalesway cottage, hotel in Barbon

Dalesway cottage offers accommodations in Sedbergh, 21 miles from World of Beatrix Potter and 26 miles from Askham Hall.

The cottage is ideally situated for walks over the moors (fells). A little ways outside of Sedberg, but within walking distance. Very quiet area, beautiful green, rolling hills, wild flowers, the river with it's ancient stone bridge. Good food at the Red Lion pub in Sedberg. And nextdoor neighbour was very helpful in calling ahead to book us a table, as we arrived near to time meals finished. Cottage totally delightful. Everything very well maintained. Nice well-appointed living room with dining area off to side. Power reclining couches. Clean, well-equipped kitchen. Including washing machine (clothes drying rack in closet under stairs) plenty of dishes and cook-ware. Nice big kettle and teapot. Milk, teabags, coffee and cookies all ready and waiting. Two nice, comfortable bedrooms with both medium and light quilts. Extra pillows ( feather) available in closet. Back bedroom gorgeous views of the hillside where sheep and lambs were grazing. Bathroom again clean and well equipped (auto light on mirror had us stumped the first night) Large bathtub with great water pressure, and hot shower. Lots of information booklets available. Information about cottage and of nearby walks and hikes in black folder. NB We didn't read the last paragraph about turning off the outside lights at night, until our third night. So our apologies to the neighbours. Three areas of outdoor seating all of which we availed ourselves. Many different species of birds at the bird feeder in back yard.........including a pheasant, who thought he could maintain his balance on feeder-well he couldn't! Parking was good after first attempt.

Location was excellent. Breakfast was 1st class. Slightly disappointed that breakfast didn’t start till 8.30am as we wanted to be on our way back to Scotland by that time. Sharon was very accommodating and we were first to be served.

The cottage is beautifully decorated, very comfortable & views/ location is stunning. Plenty of walks to do from the cottage & a good pub within walking distance. It's in a lovely quiet village not too far from facilities & local attractions. Parking outside the cottage is on the narrow, quiet road or alternatively in the car park at the village hall round the corner. Highly recommend

Barbon was suitable for an over night stay in a small...

Barbon was suitable for an over night stay in a small picaresque village to the north of Kirby Lonsdale situated on the edge of the Yorkshire dales and the Lake District. The village is also host to The Barbon Inn originally built as a coaching inn in the 17th century and the civil parish is in the diocese of Westmorland and Furness, the church is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. Barbon being also north of Casterton where the Beck is a tributary to the river Lune which runs close to the village with great Fell walks along Barbondale and the winter Fell running Race. The Church mouse is also located in central Barbon the original Post Office, a village store, café and delicatessen. The emporium has indoor and al fresco dining being fully licenced proffers snacks, light lunches, tapas and lunchtime specials in the café and purveys a comprehensive range of cheeses, meats, chilled products, groceries, newspapers, freshly baked bread, homemade cakes/biscuits and local milk in the shop. What more could the traveller/walker need or ask for?

The location was the deciding factor in my booking this hotel as I needed to be in proximity to the local church - it was less than 5 minutes walk away. It would also be an excellent base for those wishing to explore the local area hiking onto the fells. Glorious scenery. We ate in the Pub restaurant and whilst it was a fairly basic menu the food was well cooked and there was plenty of it. We also ate at a local cafe called the Church Mouse the home made soup there was excellent and warranted a few visits throughout our stay.

The room was well appointed with a huge bed. The food was excellent and the kitchen staff worked on to feed us. The bar had the usual beers plus two hand pulled real ales. The staff were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble.

The cottage had everything we wanted - a real fire, king size bed, conservatory, garden, old and cosy character. It's located in Barbon, an unspoilt village with a wonderful cafe - The Church Mouse, that sells fab cakes, meals and basic groceries and wine, and a good pub - The Barbon Inn, nice beer and pub food. Some lovely walks around too, everything we wanted.

The Barbon inn was in a lovely quiet hamlet with amazing views from our window. We had an excellent well signed walk direct from the pub which gave us a good appetite to sit outside in the sunshine for a great meal and good beer.
